Accidents and Emergencies

Aspiring Medical is well equipped for all medical emergencies. All our clinical staff are trained and experienced in emergency medicine. We work closely with hospital staff, ambulance and helicopter retrieval services, to ensure our patients receive the best care available, as Wanaka is a 1-hour drive from the nearest hospital, it is considered a rural health setting.

Aclasta Infusions

Aclasta is a convenient, once a year, infusion treatment for osteoporosis. It is a funded prescription medicine, which is given by a nurse and takes approximately an hour to administer. Please see your doctor to discuss whether this is a good option for you.

Blood Tests (Phlebotomy)

Blood test services (phlebotomy) are available Monday to Friday with our trained phlebotomists.

Bloods are sent to Southern Community Laboratories for analysis. Results are then reviewed by your doctor and are made available to enrolled patients via ManageMyHealth, or by text or phone.

With the exception of some specialised tests, most lab results are available within a few days.

Driver License Medicals

Driver License applications require you to complete a medical declaration stating if you have any conditions that may affect your ability to drive safely. Depending on the nature of the condition, you may be required to obtain a medical certificate in support of your application. A medical certificate is required for those applying for commercial/passenger/heavy vehicle licenses.

Fine Needle Aspirations

A fine needle aspiration is a type of biopsy procedure. The procedure uses a thin, hollow needle to remove samples of tissue or fluid from an organ of the body, or a lump found under the skin. Once the samples of cells have been removed, they are sent to the laboratory for further testing. Dr Simon Brebner is approved and trained to offer this procedure.

Procedures

Our doctors perform a range of minor surgical procedures including skin cancer removal, removal of moles and skin lesions, toenail resections, as well as contraceptive device insertions and vasectomies.

Dr Simon Brebner is an approved GP with Special Interest (GPSI) for the removal of cancerous or pre-cancerous skin lesions. This is a WellSouth funded service, which requires a referral from your doctor.

Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat scripts can be organised for registered patients only. If you are a visitor, or we have not prescribed the medication for you before, you will need to see a doctor.

If you are a registered patient on regular medication, recommended practice is that we supply 3 months medication at a time. You will need to see your doctor for every second prescription (i.e.every 6 months). This allows for monitoring of your condition and for your doctor to ensure the ongoing appropriateness of the medicat…

Spirometry is used to diagnose asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other conditions that affect breathing.
