Doctor’s Name: Dr Jayne Davies
Specialised Area: Women’s health, Sexual health/Family planning, Dermatology, Travel medicine, Aviation medicine
Medical Passion: I love the combination of creating long term relationships with patients and problem solving. It’s like Suduko for doctors
Personal Passions: My family (Pete and Ella), pets (Daisy and Sid), enjoying the Wanaka outdoors, travel and exploring new countries overseas, books, plants and teaching myself the art of botanical illustration!
Did you always want to be a doctor? Yes, but in my next career I’ll be either a gardener or a botanical illustrator…
How long have you lived in Wanaka? 14 years. We emigrated from Kendal in the UK in 2005 after a 6 month visit the year prior where I worked in Waipukurau, Picton and then Wanaka. Not surprisingly Wanaka won out! I had already had a year travelling prior to medical school during which I spent 9 months in Australia and 6 weeks in NZ – always said I’d done it the wrong way round and one day I would go back to NZ…..
What’s the best thing about living here? The mountains, the people and the weather.
What’s your favourite Wanaka activity or locals tip for visitors? Paddle board down the Clutha, go rock climbing at Riverside with a (cold) dip after, and run the Hikuwai with your dog.
If you could invite any four famous people to dinner (alive or dead) who would you ask? Stephen Fry, Isabel Allende, Maya Angelou and Sean Connery ….. and we would all eat curry!
